Miles Murphy: Final Design

Having sent my three initial concept designs to Miles we went through and decided on which parts of each we liked and which parts we didn’t. Also to be taken into consideration at this time was whether to use WordPress as a base to build the site. More on that later

Having looked at all the designs, a few elements were discussed in length before i sat down to attempt a final design.  First of all, design concept 3 was fairly quickly dropped; Miles wanted to have thumbnail displays for the videos rather than a list. Which left design 1 and design 2 open for evaluation.

It was agreed that design 1 was probably the most visually appealing, but Miles liked the “personal” touch of having his image underneath his sub-header as if delivering a direct quote. It would be sensible to point out at this point that Miles wanted a limited website, no “About Me” page or extensive navigation; just his work and a way to contact him.

Design 2 also incorporated a “social” tab linking to Miles’ profiles on Youtube, Vimeo, LinkedIn etc. As this is to be a video site I felt that allowing people to choose where to view his videos was important – and it also offers people to opportunity to subscribe to his channel if they so wish.

So essentially, the final design should have the aesthetic of design 1 but the more personal feel of design 2. And so I threw both into the meat grinder and came back to Miles with this design:

It is now up to me to decide how to code the site. That’ll be next.
